“WE AIN’T FREE…
UNTIL WE ALL FREE”
TACOMA CEASE FIRE PRESENTS
We are excited to invite you to join us in celebrating Juneteenth on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Wrights Park. Juneteenth is an annual holiday that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. It celebrates the day when Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, and announced that all slaves in Texas were free. This announcement came two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln and it marked the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is a day to remember the struggle and sacrifice of those who fought for freedom and celebrate the contributions and achievements of African Americans.
It is a time to reflect on the progress that has been made and to renew our commitment to equality and justice for all. We believe that Juneteenth is an important holiday that should be celebrated by all members of our community. It provides an opportunity to learn about and appreciate African American history and culture, by come together in solidarity and celebration. Our Juneteenth celebration will feature a variety of activities for all ages, including live music, dance performances, food vendors, historical reenactments, and more. We encourage everyone to bring their friends and family as we celebrate this important holiday. We hope to see you there!
